Toxic Discharges

Discharges of pollutants in violation of the Clean Water Act and the seepage of toxins from hazardous waste sites, are amongst the biggest toxicity threats to the water quality and ecological integrity of Ventura County ’s inland waterbodies and coastal waters. The goal of VCK’s toxic discharge campaign is to prevent toxic materials from polluting our inland and coastal waterbodies and from devastating their ecosystems.

VCK’s Toxic Discharge campaign is focused on: 1.)  Advocating for more protective water quality regulations, more protective NPDES Permits, and a stronger general industrial stormwater permit; 2.)  Monitoring land fills, discharges from industrial sites during storm events, and other toxic sites for toxic and illegal discharges of pollutants; 3.) Enforcing NPDES permits, the Clean Water Act, the Endangered Species Act, and other environmental regulations; and 4)  Initiating citizen enforcement and legal action where necessary.
