Non-Structural Flood Control

VCK supports non structural flood control projects that preserve the ecological integrity of rivers and streams. VCK also advocates for the removal of illegal fill in floodplains and wetlands as flood protection  measures.

Structural flood controls such as dams and channelization are ecologically destructive, impair water quality, and hinder and preclude numerous planned and possible riparian and coastal water ecological restoration efforts, such as concrete de-channelization projects and riparian habitat restoration projects.

VCK will approach this campaign through 1.) advocating against channelization and structural flood controls via public comments for proposed flood control projects; 2.) shaping state and federal policy, and 3.) initiating legal action.
